GUIDRY FAMILY MEETING
Saturday, 5 October 2013
10:00 am - 11:30 am
South Lafourche Branch Library
16241 Main Street - Galliano, Louisiana
Les Guédry d'Asteur (the Guidry family association) will have an informational meeting and genealogical presentations on Saturday, 5 October 2013 from 10:00 am until 11:30 am at the South Lafourche Branch Library in Galliano, LA.
Martin Guidry, President of Les Guédry d'Asteur, will discuss the family's plans for the Guédry & Petitpas Reunion being held on Saturday, 16 August 2014 at Acadian Village in Van Buren, Maine during the Congrès Mondial Acadien 2014. This will be our 7 th major Reunion. Come and learn what we'll be doing and how you can meet your cousins from throughout North America.
In the dress of an 1750s Acadian farmer, Mr. Guidry then will present two short audiovisual programs entitled “Origins of the Guédry Family in Louisiana, 1765-1800 ” and “ A Sojourn Forgotten? - The Acadians in Maryland, 1756-1769 ”.
Approximately 25% of the Acadians reaching Louisiana left from Maryland shores between 1766 and 1769. The discussion will highlight how they were received and treated in Maryland, where they lived during their Maryland stay, their migration to Louisiana and the two major “gifts” they left for today's Louisiana Acadians.
In looking at who were these Guédry's that settled south Louisiana, we'll explore the Guédry families that came to Louisiana between 1765 and 1793, how they arrived and where they settled. We'll focus particularly on the origins of the Guidry families along Bayou Lafourche.
All Guidry descendants are encouraged to attend this family meeting.
Also, if you have Acadian heritage or just want to learn a bit more about the Acadians, you also are invited to join us for a fun morning. The public is invited to attend.

Also, on 16 November 2013, Martin Guidry, dressed as an Acadian farmer, will present the audiovisual program "An Exile of Hopes and Heartbreaking Tragedies Through the Eyes of Pierre Guédry (1741-1825)". The talk will be part of the monthly meeting of the Southwest Louisiana Genealogical Society at the Carnegie Meeting Room, 411 Pujo Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 10:00 am. All persons interested in the Guédry (Guidry) family are encouraged to attend. We plan to have a meeting of the Guédry family after the genealogy society meeting.
Hope to see everyone at the meetings,
Marty
