Minutes - Les Guidry d'Asteur Meeting - 19 July 2009

July 19, 2009

Bonjour Cousins,

Online is the Summer 2009 issue of "Generations" - the newsletter of Les Guédry d'Asteur. We hope that you enjoy this extra issue of "Generations" for 2009. Our editor Allie Guidry has edited another superb issue that provides the latest information on the Guédry-Labine & Petitpas Reunion (Bathurst, New Brunswick on Sunday, 16 August 2009). We all thank her for her continuing commitment to excellence in producing "Generations".

Also is a photograph of Charlene Guidry Lacombe, our Membership Chairperson, presenting two Guédry-related books to Dr. Gerald Patout, Librarian of the Louisiana State University at Eunice Library. Charlene donated these books to the LSUE Library as a representative of Les Guédry d'Asteur.

On 10 July 2009 the Vancouver Olympic Games Organizing Committee notified Les Guédry d'Asteur member Andre Labine of Fernie, British Columbia that he has been selected as a volunteer crew worker for the Alpine Ski Racing Events at the February 2010 Winter Olympics. Although the work will be difficult, what a great 'seat' Andre will have during the Olympics. Congratulations, Andre, on this terrific opportunity. We will all be looking for you on the television.

In November 2008 Ms. Brittany Guidry, daughter of Craig and Vickie Pontiff-Guidry, won the Miss Teen Louisiana title. Brittany is a junior at Vandebilt Catholic High School in Houma, LA. She is now in her final preparations for the Miss Teen USA Pageant being held at Paradise Island, Bahamas on 31 July. Since winning the LA title, Brittary has been very busy working at charity events as the Special Olympics of Louisiana, the Jerry Lewis Telethon and the Susan G. Komen Foundation Breast Cancer Fundraiser. Good luck, Brittany, in the Miss Teen USA Pageant.

Finally, Les Guédry d'Asteur has received nice publicity recently from several media. Articles about Les Guédry d'Asteur appeared in the "Daily Comet" newspaper (Lafourche Parish, LA) in January of this year and recently in the "Le Courrier de la Nouvelle-Écosse" newspaper (Nova Scotia) on 26 June 2009. Additionally, Radio-Canada recently aired an interview with Martin Guidry of Les Guédry d'Asteur about our upcoming Reunion.

On Tuesday, 21 July 2009 at about 8:15 am CST Martin Guidry will be interviewed on KLRZ-FM radio (LaRose, LA) about Les Guédry d'Asteur, the Congrès Mondial Acadien 2009 and our Guédry-Labine & Petitpas Reunion in Bathurst. Prior to Martin's interview, Mr. A. J. LeBlanc will discuss Les Guédry d'Asteur and our Reunion in Cajun French. Those interested in hearing A. J.'s discussion can listen on the internet at CIFAFM.com. Tune in about 7:55 am CST. It is uncertain at this time if Martin's interview will be broadcast on the internet. If so, it will be on KLRZFM.com and will begin about 8:15 am CST. For those in southeast Louisiana KLRZ-FM is at 100.3 on your radio dial and for our Nova Scotia cousins CIFA-FM is at 104.1 on the radio dial.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Bathurst,

Marty
