Bonjour Cousins -

On February 21, 2004 members of Les Guidry d'Asteur met at the Codofil Office in Lafayette, LA from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.

After a brief opening and introductions, Charlene Guidry Lacombe, our Membership Chairman, reported that we have 20 individual, 25 family, 1 LaBine level and 2 dit Jovial level memberships thus far in 2004 - totaling 133 people. The geographic distribution of memberships demonstrate how widespread our family is: British Columbia (1), New Brunswick (1), Ontario (1); Arizona (3), California (1), Colorado (1), Illinois (1), Iowa (1), Louisiana (18), Maryland (1), Massachusetts (3), Minnesota (4), Oregon (1), Texas (9) and Virginia (2).

She also reported that 65 people have registered for the August 2004 Guedry-Labine Reunions in Meteghan and Lunenburg. They're coming from British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Texas and Virginia. We have received a few additional registrations since the meeting.

Those of us planning the Reunions really appreciate the early registrations as it helps tremendously in reserving the proper size facility, planning the meals and developing all the other activities associated with the Reunion. If you haven't registered yet and plan to attend the Reunions, please register soon.

The tours on August 4, 2004 in the Meteghan area and August 8, 2004 in the Lunenburg area are filling quickly. To date, twenty folks have indicated they will attend the Lunenburg tour and 19 plan to be on the Meteghan tour. We have a few spaces left on each tour. If you'd like to attend and haven't written me, please let me know soon.

[We need help to maintain the French version of the website. If you are fluent in French and English and would like to 'lend a hand', we could use your help in translating some of the website articles from English to French. Please let Marty Guidry at   guidryrmartin@gmail.com   know if you can help.]

Chuck Guidry, our Treasurer, gave a brief Financial Report. The expenses for our Reunions in Meteghan and Lunenburg are 'on track' thus far. In the near future we will need to have adequate funds to initially purchase items for our Sales Area and for printing the Guedry-Labine Family Cookbook. These will stretch our Treasury in the short-term.

Elaine Clement, our Publicity Chairperson, briefly mentioned an article that she is beginning to prepare on Felice Guedry Belliveau - our cousin in Meteghan who is coordinating our Meteghan Reunion. Watch for it in your local press in the next month or so. This will be the third article that Elaine has written and published in the presses throughout North America. Thanks, Elaine, for a continuing superb job publicizing Les Guidry d'Asteur and our activities.

Additionally, you have an opportunity to hear members of Les Guidry d'Asteur in Louisiana and Nova Scotia converse live about the Guedry-Labine family and our Reunions. On Tuesday, March 9, 2004 from 7:00 am CST to 8:00 am CST there will be a live radio broadcast that you can hear on the Internet or on the radio (if you live near Larose, LA or Meteghan, NS). The conversation will be moderated by Mr. A. J. LeBlanc of Lockport, LA. This is a great opportunity for many of us to hear the French of Cajun Louisiana and of the Megeghan, Nova Scotia region. If you'd like to listen live, click on one of these websites (either will work):

Cindy Herdt, chair of our Sales Committee, has been very busy developing a suite of items to offer for sale on our website and at the Reunion. These will include T-shirts, aprons, ink pens, mouse pads, lapel pins and possibly a couple of other nice gifts - all with our Guedry-Labine family logo. Presently the items are being produced and should be available for sale in the April timeframe. Watch our website for the Sales Page announcing their availability. We'll also have a select group of items available at our Reunions.

Allie Guidry and her daughters Lindsey and Rachel have edited another outstanding issue of 'Generations' that hit the 'newsstands' in January. Our members can access it on our website at this link by using the username and password that we sent you:

Newsletters

This issue spotlights Jack Guidry - our premiere chef who's editing our Guedry-Labine Family Cookbook. It also includes an article on the first Guidry to arrive in Louisiana as well as a review of several interesting books and several short articles on some of our family's athletes.

Daniel 'Chuck' Guidry discussed several interesting genealogical tidbits about the Guedry-Labine family. Also discussed was the Guedry-Labine Family Genealogical Database being developed by the Committee. The goal of the Database is to identify and place in one location all information known about each of our Guedry-Labine ancestors. The database will be fully referenced so researchers can review the source of all information. The current goal is to have four generations of the Guedry-Labine family completed by the end of 2004.

You can view the Guedry-Labine Family Genealogical Database at:

Jack Guidry is very busy editing the Guedry-Labine Family Cookbook. This will be more than a traditional cookbook. It'll will be a culinary history of the food of the Guedry-Labine family. Although recipes initially arrived slowly at the editor's desk, recently many of you have sent your favorites to him. Don't let Grandma's great food miss this issue of our family
cookbook. You can still send that recipe to Jack at jackgui@cox-internet.com . To learn more about the cookbook, click on this link:

The goal of our Les Guidry d'Asteur Book Project is to donate genealogical books on the Guedry-Labine family to key genealogical research libraries in the United States and Canada so that family researchers can easily access this information. We've been very successful in this endeavor and continue to donate books that we are able to obtain. Take a look at the libraries to which we've donated Guedry-Labine genealogical books:
