Minutes - Les Guidry d'Asteur Meeting -23 December 2012
December 23, 2012
Bonjour cousins
The Les Guédry d'Asteur Board of Directors wish each of our Guédry-Labine and Petitpas families a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous, Prosperous New Year. We hope all of you enjoy a safe and fun holiday season and that Saint Nick visits all of our young ones bringing a smile to each young face.
Attached is a gift of our appreciation for each of you - an ten-year Index to "Generations" - our Les Guédry d'Asteur association newsletter. Actually there are two indexes - a Topical Index (PDF) and a Table of Contents Index (PDF) . A big thanks to Cheryl Tholen of Les Guédry d'Asteur for preparing the indices. I am sure her efforts will pay big dividends for each of us as we search for articles, books and recipes we would like to read and use. Remember all of our newsletters are on our Guédry-Labine Family Genealogy website which is free to everyone.
We have two upcoming Guédry-Labine and Petitpas Reunions in the next four years. So begin planning for these. The first will be Saturday, 16 August 2014 at the Acadian Village in Van Buren, Maine. The Acadians of Van Buren are what I call the "hidden Acadians". Few of us even know that the Madawaska region of Maine and New Brunswick is Acadian. These Acadians have a very rich and difficult history. They not only underwent the Exodus of the 1750s, but were also "exiled" a seond time in the 1780s by the English coming from the American colonies. Then they faced almost unimaginable difficulties. Yet their spirit and religion persisted and they have survived to this day - prospering in the rich Madawaska lands. Look for a brief history of this unique group of Acadians in a forthcoming issue of "Generations".
I have just learned that the 2nd Grand Réveil Acadien will be held in 2016 in south Louisiana. Although the dates have not been set, it will probably be in October 2016. The Guédry-Labine and Petitpas family plans again to have a Reunion during the Grand Réveil Acadien. So for those that missed the 1st Grand Réveil Acadien in October 2011 and for those that came and enjoyed our Cajun Bon Temps, plan on being here for the 2nd Grand Réveil Acadien. You will not regret it.
Finally, as the end of the year approaches, I receive much correspondence reminding me to pay my 2013 dues to societies of which I am a member. I hate to ask folks for money and am generally considered a failure in that regard. So here is my little plea because unfortunately, even though Les Guédry d'Asteur operates on a shoe-string budget, we do need funds to support our several activities. Our dues are minimal ($6 for an individual and $10 for a family annually) and we have tried to make it easy to submit dues electronically. Just click on this web address and you can pay directly via PayPal using a credit card or checking account. No forms to fill out and mail, no time taken from your busy schedule. Here's the web link:
