Minutes - Les Guidry d'Asteur Meeting -31 March 2013

March 31, 2013

Bonjour cousins

Spring has just arrived and so has another edition of "Generations" - our newsletter for Les Guédry d'Asteur. I hope all of you have a very happy Easter holiday.

In this issue we conclude our five-part series on Acadian church records that explored where to find genealogical and historical church records before, during and after the deportation of our Acadian ancestors. As you review this issue, take a few moments to enjoy the wonderful photo with Hypolite Onizaphore Guidry and his family of Rayne, Louisiana. This is the same Hypolite Onizaphore Guidry that owned the Blue Goose Dance Hall in Rayne that we highlighted in the last issue of "Generations". What an heirloom this photograph is.

In August 2014 many of us will journey to Van Buren, Maine for our seventh Guédry-Labine & Petitpas Reunion. Have you ever wondered how did Acadians end up in northern Maine and New Brunswick? We don't often hear about this unique Acadian community. In the article "Acadians in Madawaska - Their Journey and Struggles" we discuss the long, arduous journey these people experienced and the struggles they endured to survive and thrive in northern Maine and New Brunswick. In this newsletter you'll also find updated information on our Reunion in Van Buren. I recently spoke with the staff of Congrès Mondial 2014 and they are in negotiations with the U. S. and Canadian immigration services regarding border crossings. In the near future they anticipate announcing on the CMA 2014 webpage http://www.cma2014.com/en/ expedited border crossing procedures for Congrès Mondial 2014 guests. I have spoken several times with our Acadian cousins in Maine and they are excited about the Congrès and hosting their Acadian cousins from throughout North America.

I always enjoy the "Historical Tidbits" section of the newsletter and the old newspaper articles of our family in this edition are quite interesting. Take a few moments to glance at them and learn a bit about the day-to-day history of our Guédry and Petitpas family.

Thanks to Allie Guidry, our editor, for another outstanding issue of "Generations".
