MINI-REUNION

Sunday, 5/25/2003 Our Guedry-Labine MiniReunion will be Sunday, May 25, 2003 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm in Lafayette, LA at Vermilionville. Vermilionville is located in Beaver Park - across from the Lafayette Municipal Airport. The only cost to attend will be the discounted admission price to enter Vermilionville - $6 per adult and $4 per child. Persons attending the MiniReunion can get discount coupons as they enter Vermilionville.

From 10:00 am until 12:15 pm our gathering point will be in the Pavillion (Dance Hall) on your right as you enter the historic park. Les Guidry d'Asteur will have several exhibits about the Guedry's including " Lest We Not Forget - Guedry's Who Have Served in Their Nation's Military " ; " The Famous and Not-So-Famous Guedry's " , " Guedry's - A Family on the Move or Tracing the Guedry Family Through Their Movements " , " Migration of the Acadians from 1755-1803 " , etc. We'll also have information on our 2004 Guedry-Labine Reunion in Meteghan, Nova Scotia (August 5, 2004) and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (August 7, 2004). Of course, there is ample room and time for folks to meet and visit with each other.

At 12:30 pm Father Mitchell Guidry will lead us in a very nice mid-Reunion ceremony. From 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm a live Cajun band will play in the Dance Hall. Guidry cousins are invited to continue visiting; listen and dance to the music and/or visit the many facilities in Vermilionville.

Throughout our MiniReunion Vermilionville will be fully operational with all facilities open and interpreters/re-enactors present at many locations. You may tour all facilities at Vermilionville and also at the Acadian Unit of the National Park Service located just outside of Vermilionville. This is an excellent opportunity to not only meet your Guedry cousins, but also to
learn a little more about our Acadian heritage.

Vermilionville has an excellent restaurant that serves sit-down meals as well as hamburgers and snacks.

Try to attend the MiniReunion - meet your cousins, learn about our family and enjoy your Acadian heritage.

SALES COMMITTEE UPDATE

Shortly we will open the Guedry-Labine Family Store that will provide you with sales items related to the Guedry-Labine family. Our Sales and Website Committees are busily developing our Guedry-Labine Store on the Guédry & Petitpas Family website.  The Store will sell items related to the Guedry-Labine family. Initially we'll offer some historical items from the
1999 Guedry Reunion. Here's your last opportunity to acquire those souvenirs you met to buy and never found your way back to the Sales Tables during 1999. When these few items are gone, they'll never again be available. Later this summer we'll be offering new items.

GUEDRY-LABINE BOOK PROJECT

With the very generous support of several members of Les Guidry d'Asteur and the authors, we have been able to donate 3-5 genealogical books on the Guedry-Labine family to each of six selected historical/genealogical libraries in Louisiana, Texas and Canada. Because of their very limited production, these books were not available to most family researchers unless
they had purchased the books directly from the authors. Now many Guedry-Labine family researchers can access these valuable research sources at a genealogical library near their home. Go to the Guedry-Labine Family Website to learn more about our Book Project and where you can find these excellent research aids: Book Project

THE 2004 GUEDRY-LABINE REUNION IN NOVA SCOTIA

The Guedry-Labine family will meet twice during Congrès Mondial in Nova Scotia during August, 2004. On August 5, 2004 we'll meet in Meteghan for a superb reunion in the Acadian area of Nova Scotia. Our Guedry/Geddry/Jeddry cousins of the Meteghan area will host us to their homeland. They have been working on the reunion for several months and have some excellent plans that I know we'll all enjoy. Be prepared for an outstanding and moving opening ceremony, some superb local Acadian food, genealogical and historical family exhibits and superb entertainment. On August 7, 2004 we'll regather at
Lunenburg for another great day. Lunenburg is the historical home of Claude Guedry and Marguerite Petitpas. It'll be another day to meet cousins, renew acquaintenances, enjoy some great entertainment and food and learn more about your family. Visit the Guedry-Labine Family Website to learn more about the Reunion and to Register to attend.

2004 Reunion

In 2003 Lunenburg is celebrating the 250th Anniversary of its founding as a town. As part of this unique time in its history, Lunenburg is building an historical park near its shoreline. The park will contain large, historical plaques - each describing an historical era in Lunenburg's history. At the request of the Anniversary organizers, Les Guidry d'Asteur developed and
submitted suggested language for the Acadian plaque. The suggested wording describes the Acadian presence in Merligueche (the small Acadian/Micmac community located in the late 1600's and early 1700's where Lunenburg is
today) and mentions the Guedry and Petitpas families. Additionally, Les Guidry d'Asteur donated $500 toward the construction of the plaque. When visiting Lunenburg during the Reunion, stop by the Anniversary Park and readthe Acadian Plaque. Also, visit the French Cemetery nearby and read the plaque there. It also mentions the Guedry family.
