Bonjour Mes Cousins,
On Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 10:30 am until 12:00 noon we're having a meeting of Les Guidry d'Asteur at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, LA. We'll meet in the upstairs conference room at the Memorial. [FOR DIRECTIONS - SEE BELOW]
In 1765 one of the earliest groups of Acadians to reach Louisiana was settled by the Spanish in the St. Martinville area. Today this area is often recognized as the heart of the Acadian region where French is still spoken widely.
Before coming up to the 2nd floor of the Memorial for the meeting, venture onto the pavillion behind the Memorial and view our Guedry Crest on the patio. After the meeting we will enjoy lunch together a local restaurant near the town squaure and then return to the Memorial to tour the Heritage Center and the Acadian Memorial itself.
For anyne not familiar with the St. Martinville area that would like to visit the old St. Michael's Cemetery (just across Bayou Teche from the Memorial) and/or the town square around St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, please let me know and I'll be happy to arrive early (ca. 9:00 am) and provide a brief tour of these areas.

This begins the first of a series of monthly meetings that we are having in various locations of south Louisiana and southeast Texas. Our goal is to meet in locations more accessible to family members and to visit areas where our Guedry family members reside. Other areas being considered are Houma, Cutoff-Galiano area, Lake Charles and the Beaumont, TX area. GUEDRY-LABINE & PETITPAS REUNION - BATHURST, NEW BRUNSWICK - 16 AUG 2009
The Guedry-Labine & Petitpas Reunion will be on Sunday, August 16, 2009 in the Conference Centre at Danny's Inn in Bathurst, New Brunswick. We will be sending out registration information very shortly.

We will begin about 8:30 am and have activities until 5:00 pm. More on the agenda, activities and displays is forthcoming and will include formal sessions with music, presentations, etc. as well as time to mingle and get to know your cousins.
We'll have a superb buffet lunch about noon at the Conference Center. It'll be a Hot & Cold Dinner Buffet that includes roast beef smothered in peppercorn gravy, sweet & sour meatballs, lasagna, chicken wings, potato casserole, coleslaw, tossed green salad, carrot salad, rolls, carrot cake, cherry cheesecake, fresh fruit salad, coffee and tea.
It is not too early to secure lodging. Remember, unlike airline reservations, you can easily cancel hotel/motel and rental car reservations within a few days of arrival with no penalty. So don't procrastinate in making hotel/motel reservations and/or rental car reservations. Lodging space and rental cars will be very limited in the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick. "GENERATIONS" - FALL 2008 EDITION - PUBLISHED
Our Fall 2008 issue of "Generations" was published in Ocotber and sent by email to all on our Distribution List. Shortly it will be on our website. Check it out. GUEDRY CREST
We now have a Guedry Crest for everyone in the family to use.
It tells the story of our Guedry family from its French origins through its settlement in Acadia, being deported throughout the Atlantic area and final resettlement across the Western Hemisphere. It will be the official crest of our Guedry family and will represent all variations (spellings) of our name. We have a descriptive paper that discusses the meanings of the symbols and colors on the crest and lists the numerous name variations represented by the Guedry Crest.
If you have ideas or thoughts about what Les Guidry d'Asteur should be doing (at the 2009 Reunion, a project we could do, etc.), please e-mail me at guidryrmartin@gmail.com and let us know.

DIRECTIONS TO DECEMBER 6th MEETING:
From I-10 take the I-49/US-90E exit (Exit 103) and go south (toward Lafayette). This is often called the Evangeline Thruway. Continue on the Thruway past the Lafayette Airport until you reach Broussard, LA (about 10 miles). At Broussard turn left onto LA Highway 182 (also called E. Main Street). Continue about 0.8 miles and then turn left onto LA Highway 96. Continue on LA Highway 96 for about 7.4 miles to St. Martinville. In St. Martinville LA Highway 96 becomes W. Port Street. At the intersection of W. Port Street (LA (^) with S. Main Street, continue straight unto Evangeline Blvd. Continue to the end of Evangeline Blvd and turn left on S. New Market Street (at the Evangeline Oak). Park in any of the designated parking spots. Go into the Acadian Memorial (the second building from the Evangeline Oak) and tell the receptionist that you are here for the Guedry family meeting. Go out the back door of the Memorial to the Pavillion. (Don't forget to see our Guedry Crest near the gate of the Pavillion). Go up the stairs to the balcony, enter the second floor of the Memorial and go to the conference room in the back. We'll meet in this conference room.
If coming from the Houma area to the south using US-90, turn right onto LA Highway 182 at Broussard and follow the above instructions from that point.
