Guy Labine

The son of Robert Labine and Hortense Joliat, Guy Labine gained a strong work ethic and sense of direction from his parents. After graduating in 1984 from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Guy began working as a supervisor at the Employment and Immigration Student Employment Centre. Here began his inspiration for public service. Soon, he moved to Statistics Canada where he worked on the 1986 census of the Algoma Region. In 1988 at age 27 Guy Labine became one of the youngest persons elected as Municipal Councillor of the Town of Rayside -Balfour. He served until 1993 when he formed the town's first economic development office. Continuing his public service, in 1997 Guy became manager of the Sudbury Regional Development Corporation. In 2001 Guy joined Science North as Director of Business Development. Science North, located on Lake Ramsey in Sudbury, is an outstanding science education centre offering interactive venues from lakes, rivers and forests to space and astronomy, technology and engineering, the human body and DNA as well as computers and communications. Because of his experience and demonstrated leadership, Guy has risen in the ranks at Science North and in 2011 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer. Under his visionary leadership Science North provides an outstanding program of inspirational, educational and entertaining science experiences for the student and the public. It is northern Ontario's most popular tourist attraction and the second-largest of the more than forty science centres in Canada. In 2017 the Association of Science and Technology Centers, a 670- member worldwide body, elected Guy Labine as Chair of the ASTC Board of Directors.
