Dr. Harlan Mark Guidry

Dr. Harlan Mark Guidry for his unwavering commitment to serve his community as a medical doctor, traiteur, cultural preservationist and Catholic deacon. Born at Port Arthur, TX in 1961 to Raymond Guidry and Marilyn Goudeau Guidry, Mark became interested in his cultural and ancestral heritage while a young boy - a passion he still has today. Professionally, Mark received his medical degree from the University of Texas with specialties in Family Practice and Public Health. As an M.D., Mark strives to provide superb health care to those most in need. Serving with Texas health care systems and with the Veterans Administration, he recently was the Chief of Staff of the Alexandria, LA VA. Currently, he is the CEO of Outpatient Medical Center in Natchitoches, LA. Mark received the 2016 Texas Statewide Public Health Award. In 2016 Mark moved to Isle Brevelle, LA - a Creole community south of Natchitoches begun in the 1780s and where Mark's Creole family originated. He became immersed in the Creole culture of "his people" and has worked to preserve and promote this culture. Mark has served as President of the St. Augustine Historical Society and remains very active as a cultural preservationist and author. In 2000 Mark received the Louisiana Creole Heritage Center Preservationist Award. Mark is also a traiteur which he learned from his mother and often he treats those in the community. Recently, Mark was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church and serves his St. Augustine Catholic Church community on Isle Brevelle. Mark and his daughter reside at Isle Brevelle where he serves his people as a doctor, traiteur, Deacon and cultural preservationist.
