Phyllis Marie Guedry, Softball Coach
In August 2001 Phyllis Guedry returned to her alma mater Nicholls State University as head softball coach. From 1998 - 2001 Phyllis was head softball coach at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA where she posted a winning record. In fact, Phyllis has never experienced a losing season during her eleven years as a player or coach.
A native of Terrebonne Parish in south Louisiana where she was born on 15 Dec 1971, Phyllis starred and later coached at Nicholls State University (Thibodaux, LA). While at Nicholls State, she was an All-Star Catcher in 1993 and graduated with a B.A. degree in General Studies.
Phyllis Guedry was a four-time letter winner in softball at Nicholls State and captured All-Louisiana Collegiate Softball Freshman-of-the-Year honors in 1990. She was also an all-conference catcher and in 1992 her Nicholls State University softball team won the Southland Conference championship.
After completing her B.A. degree, Phyllis continued at Nicholls State as an assistant coach for two years. Her 1994 and 1995 softball teams won back-to-backSouthland Conference championships.
Then in 1995 she joined the Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA) coaching staff where she helped start a women's softball program that captured the Southeastern Conference Western Division championship each of its first two years of existence and is today considered one of the best softball coaches in the nation.
Her teams went 44-14 and 58-14 while achieving a Top 25 national ranking both years. In 1997 the LSU women's softball team was ranked 10th nationally and advanced to the NCAA Regionals.
In addition to her coaching duties, Phyllis also coordinates recruiting for the team - a most important role as demonstrated by the continued success of her softball program.
In August 1998 Phyllis moved to Georgia State University - replacing longtime GSU head softball coach Bob Heck. During her three seasons in Atlanta GSU softball advanced to the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament all three years and ten of her players earned all-conferencerecognition. Between LSU and GSU Phyllis briefly served as an assistant coach with the Georgia Pride of the Women's Professional Softball League.
Her coaching experience is quite broad - spanning the field from pitching and catching instructor to outfield coach to hitting instructor, field maintenance and strength and conditioning coach.
She has worked in several national and international softball camps including the International Softball Camp in Heidelberg, Germany (1997) and the Tiger All-Star Clinic, Inc. (1996).
