Born on 1 June 1922 in Grand Bois, a small community of St. Martin Parish, LA, Sidney Guidry was the son of Joseph Guidry and Eva Guidry. He first married Lean Angell in 1945 with whom he had three sons. On 11 November 1983 he married a second time to Yvonne Robin. Sidney started playing music at eight years of age and became a self-taught rhythm guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. By the age of 13 he was a professional musician. During the 1930's he worked with the Alley Boys in Abbeville, LA and later played with Doc Guidry and the Sons of the Acadians. His Cajun and Western Swing recordings made with the Alley Boys were distributed by Vocalion Records. Popular Cajun hits on the record included Abbeville Breakdown , Jolie Petite Fille and Moi et Ma Belle . He also recorded records on the Decca Label in Houston, TX.

Always pushing the envelope, Sidney developed a rudimentary sound system in 1939 powered by an automobile battery. Also in 1939 Sidney Guidry had a weekly radio show on KVOL in Lafayette, LA. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, Sidney returned to full-time performing a couple of years after the war. On 28 July 1993 Sidney Guidry passed away at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette, LA and is buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Cecilia, LA.
