Acadian Attractions in New Brunswick

Bonjour cousins,

Below is a brief list of Acadian attractions in New Brunswick. I have arranged the list by regions of New Brunswick. While you are in New Brunswick this summer, you may want to visit a few of these attractions to learn more about our New Brunswick Acadian cousins.

Unfortunately, few members of the Guédry family were in New Brunswick historically. On 2 June 1681 Jeanne Guedry, daughter of Claude Guédry and Kesk8a (a Mi'kmaq Indian), was baptized on the St. John River at Menagoneck (near its mouth at the Bay of Fundy). Menagoneck was later called Parr Town and is today within the city of St. John, New Brunswick.

With the fall of Louisbourg in July 1758, Jean Anselme Guédry, son of Paul Guédry and Anne Mius d'Azit, with his wife Marie LeBlanc, daughter of Joseph LeBlanc and Marie-Madeleine Lalande, and their son Jean left their home at Baie des Espagnols, Île Royale (today near Sydney, Cape Breton) and resettled near Ristigouche, New Brunswick. In 1760 their second son Alexandre was born. Also in 1760 Jean Guédry and his family were captured by British soldiers and taken to Fort Cumberland (formerly Fort Beauséjour near the southern border of New Brunswick at Aulac, New Brunswick). Here they were held as prisoners until after the Treaty of Paris on 10 February 1763. In 1764 Jean with his wife and three sons Jean, Alexandre and Joseph were released by the British. They resettled at Miquelon and then went to France and eventually to Louisiana in 1785.

Of course, New Brunswick has many other attractions in addition to its Acadian heritage. You can locate many of these in New Brunswick's superb visitor's guide that you can have delivered to your door for FREE. Order it at this website and have it by before mid-July. http://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca/VisitorsGuide.aspx

Here's New Brunswick's tourism website if you'd like to see what this beautiful Canadian province has to offer you: http://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca

As I identify additional Acadian attractions in New Brunswick, I will update the attachment and send it to everyone.
