Roman Antoine Guidry

It is with sadness that I note the passing of a dear friend and strong supporter of our family. Roman Antoine Guidry of Cut Off, Louisiana died 7 February 2016 in Cut Off at the age of 89 years. Roman attended almost all of our Reunions - be they in Louisiana or Canada. He also was instrumental in planning our Cut Off, LA Reunion in 2011 that was held only a block from his home at the Cut Off Youth Center. Additionally, Roman and his lovely wife Mabel attended every family meeting we had and hosted several local family gatherings in Lafourche Parish. He was proud of his Guédry heritage and worked hard to preserve it. Roman served as a B-17 belly gunner in the United States Army Air Force. Throughout his life Roman gave back to his community where he was a volunteer fireman, worked with the Boy Scouts, founded the Cut Off Youth Center, chaired the local and regional Red Cross associations and assisted in many activities of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was a parishioner. In 1966 the Young Men’s Business Club honored Roman as the “Outstanding Member of the Year” and in 1980 the South Lafourche Chamber of Commerce awarded him the “Pioneer Award for Community Service”. Our thoughts and prayers are with Roman, Mabel, his wife of 66 years, his son Chris and his daughters Donna, Mary, Jenny and Carol.
