Carlette Guidry, Track & Field (4 Sep 1968 - )

A speedster since youth, Carlette Guidry, born 4 September 1968 in Houston, TX, sprang to the national limelight during her sophomore year at Sterling High School in Houston, TX. In 1985 she was the Texas Athletic Conference Junior Champion in the 100-meters and the long jump and runner-up in the triple jump. In 1986 she repeated as TAC Junior Champ in the long jump while placing 2nd in the 200-meters and 3rd in the 100-meters. That same year she won the 200-meters and the long jump at the Pan-American Junior Championships and she finished 4th in the 200-meters and 7th in the long jump at the World Junior Championships.
Attending college at the University of Texas where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology in 1993, Carlette became a world-class sprinter. Competing indoors in the 55-meters, 200-meters, long jump and triple jump, she led the Lady Longhorns to the NCAA Indoor Championship in 1988 by winning the 55-meters and long jump, placing second in the 200-meters and running a leg on the winning 4x400-meter relay team. Improving each year, she began competing in world-class events as the Goodwill Games and the World Championships.

In 1990 she posted the best U.S. time of the year for the 100-meters (11.03 seconds) which earned her the No. 3 world ranking in that event. She continued to garner multiple NCAA and Southwest Conference titles each year in her trademark events - 55-meters, 100-meters, 200-meters and long jump.
Her world rankings continued to stay in the top ten: 1991 (5th in 100-meters), 1992 (8th in 100-meters, 6th in 200-meters), 1993 (10th in 200-meters), 1994 (5th in both 100-meters and 200-meters).
A highlight of her early career was an Olympic Gold Metal on the winning U.S. 4x100-meter relay team and a 5th place finish in the 200-meters at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992.
In 1994 she married Mon White, a former quarter-miler from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (Lafayette, LA), who works in law enforcement.
Annually she has competed strongly in the USA and World Championships in the 100-meter and 200-meter events - usually placing in the top 5 finishers and often winning the 200-meter USA Championship title.
In the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Carlette competed in the 200-meters and the USA 4x100-meter relay. Although she finished a disappointing 8th in the 200-meters, the USA 4x100-meter relay team blazed to a victory giving Carlette her second Olympic Gold Medal.
Currently Carlette Guidry holds the 4th best American time in the indoor 60-meter (7.04 seconds) and 200-meter (22.73 seconds) events and the 8th best American time in the outdoor 200-meter (22.14 seconds) event. Carlette certainly has earned her nickname among track athletes - Ms. Turbo!
