Minutes - Les Guidry d'Asteur Meeting -31 October 2013

October 31, 2013

Bonjour Cousins,

Attached is the Fall 2013 edition of "Generations" . In it you'll find several articles on the upcoming Guédry & Petitpas Reunion on 16 August 2014 in Van Buren, Maine . In "So What Is There to DO at the Congrès Mondial/" we break down the complex agenda of the two-week Congrès - highlighting the most significant events and pointing you to where you can get more information on those that may interest you. The Historical Tidbit is a must read about Acadian life in the Madawaska, Maine area in the 1890s.

Also, we have two quite interesting photographic essays on the Albert Guidry family and the Henry Guidry family.

And don't miss the latest inductees into the Les Guédry d'Asteur Circle of Distinction. Each is very deserving of the honor.

Thanks again to our outstanding editor for the past ten years - Allison Guidry. She takes the printed word on white paper, applies her 'magic' and produces a wonderful newsletter with an interesting layout, lovely seasonal colors, great photographs and true eye-appeal.

On 16 November 2013 Marty Guidry will be presenting an audiovisual show on "An Exile of Hopes and Heartbreaking Tragedies Through The Eyes of Pierre Guédry". He will be dressed as an Acadian farmer of the 1750s during the presentation. This talk will take you through the life of Pierre Guédry, son of Augustin Guédry and Jeanne Hébert, from his birth in Merliguèsh, Acadia in the early 1740s through his early life and exile to North Carolina as a young man in his teens. From North Carolina his life takes several twist and turns, hopes and tragedies, through Pennsylvania and Maryland before he finally reaches his new homeland in Louisiana in 1768 - but once again tragedy strikes only to be overcome by Pierre time and again. He even played a role in the overthrow of an early Spanish governor of Louisiana.

The talk will be at the Southwest Louisiana Genealogical Society Meeting on 16 November 2013 at 10:00 am. The address is 411 Pujo Street (Carnegie Meeting Room) in Lake Charles, LA. The SW Genealogical Society invites all of our Les Guédry d'Asteur members and guests from Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas to attend the meeting. After the meeting we can have a brief Guédry meeting to review our plans and preparations for the Guédry & Petitpas Reunion in August 2014.

Enjoy the newsletter and hope to see some of the family in Lake Charles on 16 November,

Marty
