In Memoriam - Daniel Charles "Chuck" Guidry
It is with great sadness that we note the passing today 21 March 2026 at 12:50 pm of Daniel Charles “Chuck” Guidry. He died of lymphoma cancer after a short illness. I am sure that many of you have met Chuck at one or more of our reunions as he and his wife Stephanie attended most of them. In 1997 against almost insurmountable odds Chuck founded Les Guidry d’Asteur for the upcoming 1999 Congrès Mondial Acadien so that we could have a Guidry Reunion in Houma, Louisiana. Through tireless work over the next two years Chuck spread the word about the upcoming Reunion and on 7 August 1999 almost 500 Guidry cousins attended the event in Houma, LA. Chuck served as our first President - providing a strong foundation for our family association to grow and prosper and continued to serve on our Board as Treasurer until his death. He was the first person inducted into our Circle of Distinction. Shortly after our 1999 Reunion, we changed the name of our family association to Les Guédry et Petitpas d’Asteur to recognize our broad North American family.
Daniel Charles Guidry was born to Hayes Joseph Guidry and Rita Marguerite Falgout in New Orleans, LA on 28 February 1955. He married Stephanie Mary Chauvin on 28 February 1976 in Raceland, LA with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. Chuck and Steph had two sons. Gavin Mathew Guidry was born in Thibodaux, LA on 13 February 1979 and died the same day. Nathaniel Jordan Guidry was born in Metairie, LA on 6 February 1984 and married Sara Beth Dugas. They have four children.
Chuck not only founded our family association in 1997, but continued over the years to provide expert direction and advice to our Board on many matters. His support and direction truly will be missed.
