Ozair Guidry, for several years a successful and well-known figure in the retail merchandising circles of Crowley, is the owner of the Guidry Grocery store at 903 West Fifth Street, a business established here by Mr. Guidry in 1932. The Guidry store is operated under a policy of service and courtesy to its customers and has prospered from the day of its opening. Mr. Guidry is careful to maintain his stock at a high standard and has well-trained personnel to assist in operation of the store.
Ozair Guidry was born in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, on the twenty-fourth of September, 1908, a son of A. Guidry, now retired and living in Crowley, and Corinne (Bernard) Guidry, a native of Duson. The elder Guidry was a successful planter and also served as chief of police at Duson for a little more than ten years. Mr. Guidry obtained his education in the schools of Lafayette and also attended night school at Duson, and after leaving school was employed from 1923 until 1930 during the ginning season in the J. P. Barnett gin at Duson. He also worked on his father's farm from 1924 until 1932 when he came to Crowley and entered the retail grocery business in which he has been an outstanding success. On the tenth of May, 1924, Mr. Guidry was married in Rayne, Louisiana, to Miss Oraline Sonnier, a daughter of Jules Sonnier, a widely-known planter of Acadia Parish. Mr. And Mrs. Guidry are the parents of three children, Virginia, Ivy and Roosevelt Guidry. The eldest daughter, Virginia, is an accomplished musician and member of the Crowley High School Band and the only girl member of the band who plays an alto clarinet. Virginia received two medals in the District No. Two Festival under auspices of the L.M.E.A. in 1939; playing with the Alexandria band.
Mr. Guidry has served several years as a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Commerce and Trust Co. at Crowley. He takes an active part in civic affairs and is a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
